Overview
This is the first of two letters to the church at Thessalonica. Paul is obviously fond of this young church and encourages them to grow in grace and love for the Lord and for each other.
He closes the letter by referring to the second coming of our Lord giving hope and comfort for the future.

Time of Thessalonians
As a major seaport and capital of Macedonia, Thessalonica was a prosperous city in the time of Paul. After Paul met Silas and Timothy in Athens he sent Timothy to Thessalonica and Silas back to Macedonia, later all met in Corinth in AD 51 where he wrote this letter following Timothys good report from the church.
