Overview
In this book Paul presents the great doctrinal truths of Christianity. It is not just a book of theology but a presentation of how to live the Christian life. We are encouraged to faith in Christ and application of that faith in our daily living.
It was written to the Church in Rome to encourage their spiritual growth and overwhelms us with what God has done for us. Paul never visited this church which was probably formed by groups of Christians who found themselves in Rome and so founded a church.
Paul wrote to them to ensure that they, and thereby us, had a clear understanding of the Gospel; how Scripture relates to Scripture; and how we are to live as Christians. It is without doubt his greatest epistle.
