God the Holy Trinity

GOD

God is.
- it is not a fact that needs to be proved.
- but nobody can come to Him unless he believes that He is. Heb 11 vs 6
God is a Spirit
- this is taught in John 4 vs 24
- He is invisible. 1 Tim 6 vs 15-16
- yet He is often spoken of in physical terms (anthropomorphism's).
- however He is a someONE, not a someTHING. Exod 33 vs 11, James 2 vs 23
God is very great
- so far as space is concerned, He is everywhere. Jerem 23 vs 24 (omnipresent).
- so far as time is concerned, He is eternal. Psalm 90 vs 2
- so far as knowledge is concerned, He knows everything. Psalm 147 vs 5 (omniscient).
- so far as power is concerned, He does whatever He chooses. Psalm 115 vs 3 (omnipotent).
God is self existent
- He is now in no way dependent upon any created being.
- He is the fountain of his own being.
- Romans 11 vs 33-36.

God possesses certain perfect INcommunicatable attributes		God possesses certain perfect communicable attributes

= The Original		power		= The image
= A Spirit		holiness		= Living soul
		justice
		goodness
		truth
	Infinite	-	finite
	Eternal	-	temporal
	Unchangeable	-	changeable

The Holy Trinity.

Only one God.
- - this is the most basic teaching of the Word of God. Deut 6 vs 4, 4 vs 35.
  - and this one God is 'one indivisible essence'. Deut 6 vs 4.
Three who are God
- - even the Old Testament prepares us for the truth that there is more than one Who is God. Gen. 1 vs 26-27, Isa 6 vs 8.
  - the Father is God. Matt 6 vs 9.
  - the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son, is God John 20 vs 25, 1 John 5 vs 20.
  - the Holy Spirit is God, Matt 12 vs 31-32.
  - yet these Three are distinct. John 15 vs 26, 16 vs 13-15.
Each with His own 'personal properties'
- - "It is proper to the Father to beget the Son, and to the Son to be begotten of the Father, and to the Holy Ghost to proceed from the Father and the Son from all eternity" (Westminster Larger Catechism).

Lessons :- we are able to say what the truth about God is. but we are not able to explain how it can be so. There is no appropriate reaction except to be a REVERENT WORSHIPPER.
